Field School Integrated Pest Management (SLPHT)

integrated Pest Management Field School ( IPMFS) was first initiated in Indonesia in the framework of the National Program for Integrated Pest Management, namely in 1990. At the time Field School term sounded strange enough among farmers and other people, but four years later SLPHT been organized by farmer groups in Indonesia, and organizing in the villages in the form of IPM Farmer Field School (IPM Field School) in Vietnam, China , Philippines, Bangladesh, India, South Korea, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. In this case SLPHT developed in Indonesia is a significant contribution to the Farmers in Indonesia and other countries. Currently in Indonesia has grown SLPHT on various commodities besides rice, among which are the crops of fruit, vegetables and other crops, and has generated millions of alumni SLPHT as Farmer IPM Specialist

         Lesman in an effort to develop a mentoring group of farmers in three districts, Kulon Progo and Gunung Kidul distric (DIY) and Boyolali (Central Java), has lots Field School activities, ie IPM Field School (Rice, Polowijo, etc.) and Field ECOLOGY OF LAND, with the aim of developing sustainable agriculture programs.

         Integrated Pest Management Field School (IPMFS) is an extension method to implement Integrated Pest Management. Field School (i) have the participants and the guide field, (ii) a school in the field and participants to practice / apply what is learned directly, (iii) has a curriculum, and certification marks evalusai graduation, and (iv) commencing with the opening ceremony, closure, field visits / study tours and ends with the retrieval field.

         Field of school counseling method is based upon the two main challenges, namely the ecological diversity and the role of farmers as managers (IPM experts) in their own land. Integrated Pest difficult poured through regular counseling model (posters, lectures and others), partly because of the ecological diversity of tropical regions, therefore the absolute IPM is local. IPM works with nature and not against it. Efforts to change the farmers to become farm manager / expert IPM is basically a human resources development. For sustainable agriculture to farmers is the farm community's own resources that can improve sustainable agricultural technologies.

Characteristics of Integrated Pest Management Field School are as follows:

· Farmers and guides are citizens learn and respect each other;

· Planning jointly by groups of farmers;

· Joint decision by members of farmer groups;

· Way to learn through experience / Adult Education (Andragogy);

· Conducting his own, his own experience, and find themselves;

· We would conduct integrated training and practice in the field;

· Facilities learning is the field of farming (agroecosystem);

· Training for one cycle of plant development (according to plant phenology);

· A detailed and integrated curriculum;

· Combustible material and facilities as well as practical, versatile, and easily obtained from the field;

           Land / agricultural field and the local ecology of the living and dynamic is a key learning tool, if necessary other learning tools, then the only form of "Technical Guidelines", ie the instructions / manual steps and learning process.

          IPM Field School participants are farmers, farm owners and tenants of land which is responsive to new technologies, productive, both men and women. As farmers they do not belong to anyone and subordinates
