How to Use and Calculate Needs Compost

How to use compost, should be adapted to the circumstances and the type of soil organic C content in the soil, besides also be adapted to the needs of each type of plant.

Each plant requires organic material content of different. Vegetable crops if not nurtured with organic fertilizer at all will not be as good growth of plants that received organic fertilizer.

Flower plants like Azalea or include Anthurium, will be very good growth in media consisting of 100 percent organic ingredients. When mixed with the soil medium, growth was not optimal. Several other plants will grow best when combined with soil compost in the ratio of 1:1. Besides, there are also plants that require compost mixed with soil and sand in the ratio 1: 1: 1.

Meanwhile, each type has a state of equilibrium soil organic matter content of its own. In the land of volcanic ash (Andisol) such as land in Lembang, soil organic C content (ideal), not the same as the content of soil organic C (ideal) on the type of soil in Banjaran Inseptisol, for example.

    Needs Compost (organic C) = C Organic Soil x 1724 x 20 cm x 10,000 m 2

= Soil organic C determined by soil analysis in the laboratory
1724: 20 cm constant: if the soil layer depth of 10,000 m 2: area
 
As an illustration, if the results of laboratory analysis of soil organic C content is known in some places the soil was 2.56%, then calculate the soil organic C content in the layer if (20 cm) 1 hectare is:

Organic C content of the soil layer is though = 2:56 x 1.724 x 20 x 10,000 = 8800 kg / ha = 8.8 tons / ha

Meanwhile there is also a mengelompokan levels of soil organic matter in general, as can be seen in the following table:

Thus providing organic fertilizer recommendation is based on the lack of organic C content in the soil. As an illustration can be argued that if based on laboratory analysis of soil, soil organic C content is 2.56% equivalent to 8.8 tons / ha, then based on the state of the organic C level soil fertility, soil organic content is at a low level.

The precise needs of organic fertilizer, is highly dependent on soil type and plant species. This new situation will be known by more accurate if done field testing.
